Flag designs for my highschool! Which do you prefer?
By - Lord-Vercotti-IX
Definitely second for me
This. 1 may not be discernible from a distance and 3 kinda looks like tire tracks.
3 looks like the stitching for baseballs or rugby balls or something
The mascot for Northglenn high school are the Norsemen, so I went for a very Scandinavian design based off of Norway’s flag. I changed the colors to fit the school, added some Viking-Celtic style scrollwork, and added the logo.
Edit: I posted a new post that has some new designs added and some scrapped. Go there if you still want to vote.
I assume you're from Minnesota?
No I’m from Colorado. Schools just seem to always steal logos as I’ve found out.
Yup my junior high had the same Viking logo. I always wondered if it was just because the suppliers for printing everything can already make all the gear for all the schools?
It's also the Viking that the Minnesota Vikings use, just recolored. It's probably similar to how every American school in existence that starts with the letter G uses the same G as the University of Georgia and the Green Bay Packers
That one yellow jacket/bumblebee/hornet that everybody uses is a logo I'm beginning to hate.
And the two options for A. It's especially bad living in an area where you could just as easily see something for the University of Alabama or the Atlanta Braves since they both use the same script A
This isn’t totally true. They are similar but the Alabama A has a serif coming off the top point of the À[Atlanta on Left, Alabama on right](http://alanwsmith.com/image-graphics/braves-and-bama-comparison.png)
That's good to know! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the nefarious serif to see if someone is a heathen or a Braves fan
Ha. My brother and I are big braves fans but loathe Alabama. Luckily where I live most people cannot tell the difference and we snag braves gear on the cheap that stores mislabel as Alabama.
And every school that starts with M uses the Michigan Wolverines logo, including my junior high. My high school at least had a unique logo, I was quite happy with that.
And a number of "H" schools use the Harvard H. My high school even had crimson as one of it's colors as if the logo wasn't enough of a reference
I think that was u/hanahnothannah point.
Every school with eagles as their mascot just uses the Philadelphia Eagles logo.
I went to a school where we were the Spartans. For the longest time we used an actual Trojan head like everyone else did. But then Michigan State switched theirs to the Spartan helmet and we all followed suit. I prefer it over the Trojan any way.
I think New Jersey has about three or four high school Minnesota Vikings logos
Lmao yup, as a kid I thought the Minnesota Vikings stole our mascot
Haha, as a Vikings fan I was appalled at the plagiarism watching my town play one of them South Brunswick or New Vernon or Parsippany
Yeah I’m in Canada and my school also used the Minnesota Viking logo
Nice. Colorado gang
It's always the goddamn bulldog. Dunno why but I swear every third high school uses it for its logo. Spike collar mandatory
My highschool has the mustang logo
can confirm. went to monarch (in louisville, CO), stole michigans M.
Lol I assumed it was a school in Scania (Skåne) in Sweden, their flag looks like [this](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b0/Sk%C3%A5nska_flaggan.svg/1920px-Sk%C3%A5nska_flaggan.svg.png).
Although I would be surprised if a Swedish school had a flag and a logo like this.
2 looks great, it’s just that the red line between the cross and the white stuff is kinda… unsettling. Also, I’d leave out the logo or try to use negative shapes
hey i just wanna make you wary that if a norwegian sees that flag they might mistake it for the 1940 fascist party in Norway https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasjonal\_Samling
I feel the white distinguishes it enough. And anyone going to an American highschool that is also familiar with a fascist flag from the 40s should also be aware enough to know that said highschool isn't flying a retired flag.
I thought it was based off of an inverted Kalmar Union flag
2 for sure, but lose the logo. There's already a lot going on with the pattern, it adds two extra colours, and the details are too fine for such a small image. It isn't needed, the flag looks good without. . If you really want a canton, I'd merge the knot pattern with the yellow stripe and make the emblem a letter/letters on the off colour (ie red background, white knot/cross, yellow canton, red lettermark).
I agree about the logo but if it's high school they may need to follow certain guidelines or something. Just a thought.
Shitty guidelines by people who dont know flags
guidelines are just recommendations anyway.
Then it’s just the flag of Skåne/Scania with a Viking on it.
It's a school flag, they are unlikely to use a flag that doesn't have their symbol on it, that's the main identification.
2 is my favorite
Minnesota vikings logo ah yes
High Schools ripping off Big League logos is actually really common. Like, the Columbine High School logo is literally just the New England Patriots Logo.
Yup. My school was the tigers. Black and yellow colors. Literally just the Mizzou logo.
But the Colorado version
A bit to complex, but out of the 3 the second one is my pick
second one for sure
The 2 one looks really good!
I vote for version 2. Great work.
2 but it should definitely be simplified, perhaps just use the helmet design instead of an entire head, remove the shading and maybe consider some way of simplifying the pattern.
Well it’s the school logo so I don’t think I can really do without it unfortunately
Comment has been said before, but the second one is the best. I like the colour scheme.
I wonder if there is a bit too much going on there though. You could try going down the route of this [very quick Icelandic style edit](https://i.ibb.co/DfVW1GK/quickflagedit.png) I threw together on MS Paint. Apologies for not sorting out all the borders etc, there's some red showing through the white that ideally wouldn't be there.
Alternatively, you could try reducing the width of the Celtic cross a bit.
It looks like the [temporary merchant flag](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5c/Flag_of_Finland_1918_%28merchant%29.svg) of Finland.
I like that, never knew about that one!
It was used only between February and May 1918.
I like it too. Gold (yellow) and red used to be our national colours, but after the civil war with the reds that colour combination fell out of favour.
You can find the colours in Åland's flag and they are the colours of the [unofficial flag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Swedish-speaking_Finns) of the Swedish speaking Finns.
It's a shame it fell out of use, red flags generally look pretty good.
That being said, at least you now have a brilliant flag that uses the 2 best colours for a flag: blue and white
^I ^might ^be ^a ^bit ^biased ^though
2, then 3, then 1.
why does the Viking have horns?
Historical misconceptions that stood the test of time. I personally think it looks cool.
I mean, it looks cool but damn it if it's not annoying
Real Vikings did not
yeah, that's why I was confused lol.
I am a history nerd from Sweden, so of course I know they didn't
2, and Skol!
Maybe your school should adopt the skol chant too
Don't let this guy find out what the Vikings did to the Celts 😬
Ever heard of Norse-Gaels?
2, mostly because the knot pattern is large enough to be fully appreciated.
2, i think it looks cleaner and less cluttered
At first 2, then 3 really started shouting at my very essence, do 3. Don’t listen to these bozos saying #2
#2, and if you remove the logo it would be 1000x better; if it’s a requirement then I’d still see if you can pitch a version without it.
This comment. And if you don’t use non-standard text it would be better.
I have no idea why the text is non-standard lol (commented though the mobile web) but fair point!
Number 2 for sure! Are you gonna submit it for it to become official? Because that would be awesome!!!
I like the one w/out the logo and solid white instead of the weave.
2nd one seems to be my favourite!
I prefer number 2
We had that same Clipart viking, but purple and gold. (No flag) I wonder how many schools have the same mascot icons? (I assume a lot, but I'd be curious if we could ever see the numbers of the most common)
Funnily enough; that viking isn't just clipart; it's the trademarked logo of the Minnesota Vikings football team since at least the 60's. Purple and gold is also the sports team's colors.
It's very strange that so many schools across the country just... up and steal existing logos from people? Maybe it was set before the internet was more widespread, so people just never noticed.
Number 2. Its clean and its easy on the eyes. I would recommend making the colors a little darker though. It kind of strains your eyes when you look at it for too long.
Are ypu from Skåne?
nope he is an american
Oh, it looks like a redesigned skånish flag(skåne is tge most southern part of sweden)
Yeah I know haha. I live in Skåne and are Swedish. But you couldn't know that
The second one
Pretty sure we played hockey against these guys twice... does every highschool use the same five symbols if they can't get some art class senior to draw their own in the 70s?
Second for sure
Number 2 definitely
Second. Obviously not a fan of the Viking in the corner, but if you have to, then fine.
The 2nd one, but definitely get rid of the viking logo
The second all the way
I know that high school. Hunh. Hello Norseman.
I'd say 3rd
This is offensive cultural appropriation of my ancestors.
I’m sorry you see it that way. I have nothing but respect for your people.
Low quality bait
Why is your highschool appropriating norse iconography?
2nd one is my favorite though
Because Norsemen rhymes with Northglenn. I don’t personally see a problem with it but that’s just me.
2nd or 3rd
For me 3 by far.
2 or 3
Second one for sure
2, though I'd try and find a middle ground for the knot work between 1 and 2
Two. It's amazing given the choose of these three that anyone would consider one or three superior.
1 for sure
maybe remove the black from the viking logo, and add the logo to the center of the cross
I prefer the smaller knots.
2. The other white lace thing designs look off.
Definitely 2nd pic
What program or app do you use to make these?
I think the second one is the best, what does the flag represent for your highschool?
2 is the best. Not a fan of the yellow-on-white in 3.
3rd is just better
2s the best but the Celtic knots? I think that's the term, don't look good imo.it's to busy with them
The first one and why does that viking look like the Minnesota Vikings logo
Pick #2 my lord!
Second one for me
Nice heritage. Lots of Nordic flags are like that
The 2nd one
Either, if you removed the fantasy head
I like 2. It's the one that seems the cleanest
