Drake fanatics/stans don’t care if the music is bad as long as it sells

SmithersDBE

And Drake haters can't seem to accept that maybe I just like something you don't 🤷‍♂️ Was CLB the best shit ever? Nah. Was it even Drake's best work? Nope. Am I still enjoying and bumping it? Chet you betcha.

nightmaresarereal187

At least you enjoy the music and that’s why you’re playing it. I respect you as a fellow hip hop head. Drake is hip hop, and if you enjoy the new album, I’m happy for you. I just am about over the sales debacle.

Scothead180

Eminem and Kanye stans are just as bad as Drake stans. I've seen them use the sales argument a lot of times. I mean, just being a stan of anyone is wrong, it's a toxic mentality.

Deat_h

I have never understood why anyone would proudly call themself a 'Stan.' I imagine it should be insulting to call somebody that, you know, given Stan's obsession which ultimately not only led to his death but also made him treat his girl in a way that would make anybody sick.

Scothead180

Exactly. I don't think most people recognise that it's a negative term by default. And a lot of these stans are actually weirdos.

anthonysaintlaurent

I would love a Reddit page for music where the words Drake, Kanye, and Eminem are banned

ProEraWuTang

I'd love this too tbh

Deat_h

As a Drake fan, a Kanye fan and an Eminem fan, I can agree that these fanbases (in no particular order) are probably the worst and the most toxic. Having said that, I think way too many people on Reddit spew unnecessary hate at these artists to a degree where a large part of that obnoxious fanbase feels the need to defend their favourite artists. I've done that a couple of times recently myself, so I know.

Kholdstare93

Lol at putting Em in the same category as Drake and Kanye. Em is the definition of a real MC. Kanye has been trash for a lil' bout a minute now, and Drake never had any bars! That's like putting Rakim and Soulja Boy together. REAL HEADS KNOW WHAT'S UP!!!

cantCme

I think this is part of the reason why they would want such a page.

anthonysaintlaurent

Lol at not being able to understand my comment

Scothead180

ThePowerLord

lmao

nightmaresarereal187

I wouldn’t frequent it 😭

Z0mbleBee

That would be great. I'm sick of hearing about Eminem the most the stans are rabid. Like he's good and all there's no denying but shut up, listen to something else for a bit.

nightmaresarereal187

I feel the same about lil Nas x

9yr_old_lake

Why I never see him mentioned on reddit apart from recently on the Cudi sub but that's for a good reason I only see him talked about on Instagram for the most part

Parth999x

Lil nas x is basically a punching bag for most people. You can say whatever shit about him and nobody will notice. You know why.

Scothead180

He doesn't really have that many stans at all. I never noticed Nas X stans being obnoxious. He's a great guy to be honest even if I don't really care about the music

YOUNG_SOSA_24

This has got to be the most pretentious hip-hop sub I've ever seen. It's like everyone here wants to prove to themselves "I'm a real hip-hop fan." Nobody gives a shit about who you like or dislike. No one gives a fuck. The only people that do are weird and need better things to do with their lives.

JustIncredible240

If you have a different opinion, you’re a “bum”

BobaFettAss

I think in this case op got a valid point tho. But Kanye and Em stans are the same. They think their favorite artist can't do no wrong. U can't argue with any Stan when they are biased from the start.

Z0mbleBee

This is so true haha

ThePowerLord

that's reddit in a nutshell. hiphop101, hiphopheads, rap and etc. the type of users and the upvote downvote system

Smethll

Bro, Kanye stans are JUST AS BAD! Both albums are mid asfffff, I don't even know how people like Donda and give it so much praise, shits wild tooo me 🤷‍♂️

acisgoat

u lost me at the em and kanye stans part

Retired2XAgent

They’re the type of dudes that think they get bitches because they’ve fucked a couple of 4’s and they wear Gucci

StackinBread

Drake makes music that isn’t ground breaking, but it is good music to listen to, makes you feel like your living a life of luxury, like Rick Ross

papaduas

Staning whoever, and whatever is dumb, i like Drake, i like CLB, do i think its groundbreaking Hip-hop that Will change the world? No, but i still like a lot of songs and willl still bump to them, no matter the sales on the album

Z0mbleBee

^^ This is the mindset to have. Just enjoy things instead of picking at things so much.

nedelll

Drake sold a lot so CLB must be the aoty 🥴

ProEraWuTang

That's like saying the Transformers movies are better than The Godfather because of the box office results 😂😂😂

simplyrelaxing

Bro show me where they’re not. The Godfather is old men in suits talking weird. Transformers got those noises. You know what I’m talking about. The kercankerchanchan. That’s what I go to movies for. I don’t want to sit in a movie theater and stay awake for a whole two hours to understand the dialogue, I want to doze off and be woken up by the sounds of every thing known to mankind blowing up at once while the hero jumps over the fireball with his cock out and nards blowing in the wind. That’s what great movies are made from

uglyuglyugly_

>kercankerchanchan holy fuck this comment is gold

ExcitingLandscape

Why is “sold” even a metric for music anymore? Who is buying albums!? The small percentage of super fans, people who buy it on vinyl if it is even available? Everyone streams

Infernaltater

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think streams count towards sales.

Scothead180

Sales are mostly made up of streams though

Separate_Garlic9367

ems pure sales are still goin crazy

BobaFettAss

This are real fans then. On another note: hip hop fans in general don't hear Eminem like they used to.

scrollscrollscoll

When is it my turn to make the "drake mid" post?

shayed154

Mom said it's my turn to say Drakes overrated

hatertots00

Or perhaps they just don't care what the internet backpacker community thinks and sales show that people in real life like the music.

Z0mbleBee

This is the same for any Stan. I personally don't Stan anyone because I don't see the point in idolising artists/celebrities or whatever, they're just people like us. This is the same with Eminem, a lot of them just like whatever is released whether it's shit or not. I remember the trend of them all hating on Lil Wayne for literally no reason and just saying shit that isn't true. I can't agree with liking Eminem and Kanye stans I've come across too many of those mindless asshats that just attack everything and can't take any criticism. Another thing you need to consider is people like different things. I personally didn't like that album but I enjoy every other album apart from "Thank Me Later", my favourite being "Nothing Was The Same". I'm no crazy fan of his but I do enjoy his music, I don't think it's fair to say it sounds exactly the same but I get what you mean. I can't lie you sound pretty narrow minded, if you dig into Drake's catalogue there are a lot of gems. I've also seen a lot of Drake fans hate the album, just enjoy things instead of attacking it.

DoldGigga

Was expecting so much more from clb. I listened to about 10 of the songs. Skipped most after the first minute. Not one banger.

ThePowerLord

CLB was mediocre even by Drake standards but it has some good songs. I've been listening to CLB more than Donda nowadays

Initial_Ease4085

Drake seriously should'nt pay his ghostwriter for clb..... He is becoming lazy and shit

SpicyTurkeyBaster

I hate Drake purely because I’m a huge Meek fan and never emotionally recovered. But outside of the internet circle jerks, how much something sells is usually a pretty good metric for judging quality. Just because it sells the most doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best, but it’s usually a decent indicator that it’s not bad, at the very least. If you go on to other music subreddits you’ll find people shitting on the Beatles a lot. Ya know who disagrees with them? Almost everyone outside of their internet community lol

Scothead180

You didn't just compare Drake to The Beatles did you

SpicyTurkeyBaster

Not at all lol just the hate they get in niche internet communities where the cool thing to do is dislike what most people like.

Scothead180

You really said sales are a good metric for quality. That makes zero sense.

SpicyTurkeyBaster

I mean what other metric is there for quality when you’re talking about an area that “quality” is 100% subjective. Quality in music just comes down to whether you personally like it, and obviously a lot of people like Drake if he’s selling the way he does. And I’m not saying it’s the ONLY metric for quality, but if good music is just music that people like, and a lot of people like Drake, then you have to admit Drake makes good music, you just don’t like it personally. And neither do I, to be fair.

Scothead180

If it's 100% subjective then how come a lot of people liking it is an objective metric? You can argue it's quality if you like it but saying a lot of ppl like it is absolutely not a credible argument. Also I think this is pretty obvious but the masses usually don't look for quality music. They look for something that's simple and easy to digest. A lot of mainstream artists make music that will sell a lot and that has nothing to do with quality. Drake in the last few years could get away with dropping mediocre, safe music and people still eat it up. If Drake and an underground artist drop the same song do you think it'll get the same amoujt of streams? Of course not

SpicyTurkeyBaster

You’re equating your PERSONAL taste in music to “quality” music. There’s people that listen to death metal. I don’t like death metal. Doesn’t mean that death metal isn’t quality music. Drake makes pop-rap music, which I don’t care for. Doesn’t mean it’s not quality, just means I don’t like it. I’m in complete agreement with everything you just said about Drake’s music, but none of that means it’s not quality or “good.” He’s accomplishing exactly what he’s looking to, and that’s proven by the numbers he puts up. Why does “simple and easy to digest” mean it’s not quality? You don’t like music that’s simple and easy to digest, and that’s fine, but a lot of people do.

Scothead180

We pretty much established that quality is not objective. To me it's not good quality music because I listen to it and it's mostly very bland. There are some albums (particularly old school hip hop which I'm not into all that much) that I can listen to and say "this is not for me" yet I can acknowledge it's quality and well made music. It's not the same with Drake. I don't have a problem with pop rap. I listen to a lot of artists considered pop rap. I liked Meek Mill's and Cardi B's most recent albums for example. Pop rap can be interesting, catchy, pop rappers have made great albums. Drake's recent music is just not that. Heck, stuff like Eminem, J.Cole, Kanye can all be considered pop rap. I listen to their music and I listen to Drake's recent stuff and they are a world apart in terms of quality. For me. Again everything I say is subjective of course but it doesn't mean that it's not a valid opinion

SpicyTurkeyBaster

But OPs point was that Drake fans don’t care if it’s bad as long as it sells. Obviously if it sells, the people who are buying it don’t think it’s “bad.” I doubt there’s a lot of Drake fans out there that think “man this music is trash, but at least it sells a lot so I still like Drake.” Maybe there is and I’m wrong, but I’ve never heard of any Drake fans that don’t think Drakes music is good.

Scothead180

Well that's obvious, no one would buy or stream music they don't like or think it's bad. I didn't respond to the OP, I responded to your comment. You said "how much something sells is usually a pretty good metric for judging quality" which is just false. Just the fact that a lot of people stream Drake doesn't really say anything about the quality of his music. From my perspective it doesn't matter if Drake sells 500k or 5k first week, I'm going to judge the music and the music alone.
