I went to see Spider-Man this afternoon. Not bad at all, it was much better than the previous one that had him cutting about Venice and London. Good performances all round, with inventive action too. There are also some really nice shots in the film which took me by surprise. At times the pacing is off. In one particular scene you’re ripped from the action to another setting, and you’re left wondering what happened to the character that was just introduced on screen, you’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it. A very weird choice. Overall, a fun time. I still feel like Tom Holland’s films don’t have much of a style to them. I can’t quite put my finger on it though.

Routine_Locksmith274

Morning! I can taste coffee!! The covid is wearing off!!!

echoattempt

Coffee just tastes like salt water to me still, hopefully wears off soon.

beaker_72

Quiet in here this morning. Our works Christmas do that was planned for this afternoon has been postponed until February. I know it's the right thing to do but I really feel for the folk in the hospitality industry right now - just when things were starting to look up the busiest time of their year gets decimated.

Funk-Master-General

As someone who makes a pittance above minimum wage for a job that should be paid much mote: hospitality cancellations have me nothing but happy. The business passes no money on to me so I don't care how much they make.

beaker_72

My comment was really more about the people who's jobs will likely be put at risk.

Funk-Master-General

I mean, theoretically mine could be.

YodasGoldfish

Would you not prefer to work for a successful company?

Funk-Master-General

Not really. Hospitality jobs are interchangeable and I get no reward based on the company's profitability. What good does it do me for a company to be a success?

MonsieurSlurpyPants

I increase my wage by about 15 to 20% when we're busy due to tips so I would much rather be getting slammed. That and the days go faster.

Funk-Master-General

Sadly tips are low where i work

MonsieurSlurpyPants

You should look for something else then. There are more jobs than staff at the moment so you can probably boost your hourly wage and net good tips if you pick wisely. My tips aren't fantastic but I easily clear 2-3k a year.

Funk-Master-General

Looking for other stuff after new years

MonsieurSlurpyPants

Good plan. The last few months have been a great time to move jobs. Given how this week has been it is currently a terrible time but hopefully we get through this wave of shite.

YodasGoldfish

A successful company is much better to work for than one that makes low or no profit. Pay rises, benefits & perks, investment, training, promotions etc are much more likely to come your way if a company is making a good amount of money.

Jenpot

You've never worked in hospitality, have you?

i_mightbewrong

sounds like they are in first year of a business school masters. bless that optimism!

toomanyjakies

>Our **works Christmas do** that was planned for this afternoon has been postponed until **February**. That's the 14th sorted.

FidgetTheMidget

Nothing says romance like a microwaved turkey dinner.

lukeyf88

Spider-Man tonight, buzzing!

project46

Doing a pre christmas clear out and looking at donating my old Xbox One as I've got a ps5. Is there any Childrens hospitals/homes that anyone knows of that would accept it?

qawmiyah

[Get Well Gamers](https://getwellgamers.org.uk/) is a great charity founded here in Glasgow by /u/ShetlandJames that donates consoles/games to hospitals across the UK.

ShetlandJames

Thanks!

EfeAmbroseBallonDor

Is the barras any good nowadays? I've no been to the market in about 10 year and quite fancy a wee walk through it this weekend

rexuspatheticus

I went there a few months back for the first time in over a decade, was nowhere near what it was in the 90s but still fun for a bit. I got some cheap vinyl but no sign of the pirate games and magic mushrooms I used to get in my youth.

EfeAmbroseBallonDor

Any fake armani trackies or stalls selling pigs ears?

rexuspatheticus

Mate! You reminded me I did go there one Saturday morning still pished after my mates 30th a few years back. I was wandering about at 8am with a rum and coke like Julian from Trailer Park Boys, I got something similar to pigs ears from my dog and drunkenly walked back to Battlefield and made a nice fry up. I completely forgot about that. So I guess the pigs ears might still be a thing.

HappyTeaCake

Anyone had a NHS PCR test recently and can tell me how long it took to get the results back?

Crabbita

Had one last week and it was about 26 hours however I would imagine demand has since got higher. I was told up to 72 hours.

jacquetpotato

I got one at the start of the month about 3pm on a Friday. Had the negative text when I woke up next morning (they’d sent it at about 6am). With the recent rise in cases, I reckon it would maybe be a bit longer than that though.

CheeKiang

Had one done on Friday at 1 and got the result on Saturday afternoon

Nurse_short_arse

Dome one at 11am on Tuesday, got the results at 12.30am on Weds

roosterjim

katie price gets a suspended sentence , well there's a surprize. that judge should be sacked.

[deleted]

Sending a mother to jail should always be a last resort.

LordAnubis12

Could do with a day of sun. This thick cloud is soul destroying when our flat is pretty dark as it is

beaker_72

Are you taking your vitamin D tablets?

LordAnubis12

Good point actually, not yet this year! Felt properly glum yesterday which may explain this. Gym helps but still isn't hitting the same spot

FidgetTheMidget

Been taking 4000 international units daily for two years and had a Vit D assay done last April. I was in the **lower** ok range. That really surprised me. Same for my other half. I thought I was going to be fortified like a corn flake. One of those tiny tablets from Tesco is going to do way less than a 4000 IU tablet.

[deleted]

FidgetTheMidget

Those are the exact ones that I take.

ferociousgeorge

I know what you mean. I work outside most of the time and the gloom the last few weeks has been fucking depressing

catwoman42

Might also be worth investing in an SAD lamp. I am on vitamin D, but the lamp helps a lot

Jaegerwolf21

Anybody else struggling like hell to get back into working from home life? Think I'll greet if I have to do it after this month

[deleted]

Working in my PJs all day instead of getting up 2 hours earlier to get a train into the office? Aye I’m really struggling with it…

LordAnubis12

Hate it a lot of the time. I'm okay two days a week or so but I'm self employed so a lack of social contact stacks up fast.

FidgetTheMidget

Been on a home contract for 12 years. Love it. The best part is no more commute. Train ticket to Edinburgh would be £4.5K, 45 mins each way. Three railcars instead of six. Cancellations galore. Packed in with smelly bastards and the occasional mouthy piss head. Sitting here right now in my work jammies. Edit: Also, not having to shit in work toilets.

project46

Got a full time remote wfh job i'm starting next month. We just refurbed our house completely and ran cat6 cables throughout as well. Looking forward to it.

jendelacreme

I'm doing half and half which suits me. I need social contact and sitting in my pjs all day does not motivate me to do any actual work.

LordAnubis12

This. I feel like reddit often balances the entire other way. The idea of sitting around not getting dressed half working just doesn't sit well with me. People are different! I've realised I may just be an energy vampire that feeds off of other people's energy though

jendelacreme

Aye, I wish I liked it! My other half works away so if he's home it's distracting with him mooching around but if he's away I literally see no one except the dog. It just depends on the person, doesn't it?

Nurse_short_arse

Colin Robinson?

i_mightbewrong

seeing people in pjs kick about for the full day after having slept in them gives me the boak a bit, tbh. just all seems a bit sweaty, or at least in need of an airing.

twistedLucidity

No. Was WFH for 10 years pre-pandemic, had only really readjusted back to office life when this all kicked off. I do miss the morning run/bike in. I am also a fat bastard now.

eddiecointreau

I'm the opposite. Think it's fucking amazing. Watch limmy in the morning and then have a wee snooze in the afternoon.

Jaegerwolf21

Well when there's no "work" part, that makes a lot of it easier

[Everyone over 18 can book their booster now](https://www.nhsinform.scot/flu-vaccine/invitations-and-appointments/book-a-flu-or-coronavirus-booster-vaccination)

Not_A_Clever_Man_

Good luck finding one before the new year! There weren't many spots left in Glasgow when I booked yesterday. Just a few days at the mosque still open on Christmas eve.

RolandButterfield

Think they have added a tonne of dates on as I just rescheduled mine from 3rd of January to this Saturday and there was lots of availability. This was about 40 mins ago. Edit: This was for Central Mosque

SupervillainIndiana

Aye. Appointments seem to appear randomly after not being available when you looked on a previous occasion. I would advise everyone to check every day before your booked appointment to see if you can move it any earlier, especially if you want to be jagged before Christmas. The other day when the 30-39 cohort could book I initially had to make do with 3rd January but now I've moved it a couple of times and found appointments this weekend at Barmulloch. The Mosque seems to be the best bet for finding something in terms of how much is available, but I've seen folk on Twitter saying it's a very long queue even if you're booked. Wrap up warm and take a book!

NoMismatchedSocks

Thanks for posting this! I’d given up but got booked for Saturday morning

zzyzx__

Yeah this morning my gf booked an appointment at the mosque for tomorrow, pretty impressive!

wandergirl92

Yesterday slightly better than expected. Here’s hoping no more restrictions until after the New Year…

LordAnubis12

Realistically I don't think even if they locked down now anyone would follow it, but people probably would in January as there's fewer things planned.

wandergirl92

I’m having my 4th attempt at our wedding day by the end of December so I’m really really hoping for my sanity it will be alright until after the new year period. Perhaps that’s the plan? Give us 7 days of festivities this time and lock down in jan?

LordAnubis12

I doubt a lockdown will happen unless furlough comes back. Plus politically the UK gov can't really risk much more bad vibes so are unlikely to do it. Hopefully boosters plus people self locking down over Jan out of fears will do the job

Jenpot

Went to the cinema for the first time yesterday since the pandemic started. I'd been really nervous about going so thought midweek would make it easier. I don't think I'll be doing it again. Mask for two and a half hours is not fun at all, even if the film was.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jenpot

Every single person in there was wearing a mask. My sister (and presumably everyone else) took theirs off to eat then put them back on. Maybe people are more feart because of Omicron, maybe it was just a particularly compliant audience.

Editor-In-Queef

What cinema did you go to? I started going again in July and have noticed that if you go to Cineworld you'll see a lot of people with them off but if it's the GFT 9/10 people are usually wearing them properly. Also every weekday showing before 5pm the GFT only sell 50% of their tickets per showing for those who still want to social distance.

Jenpot

Vue at The Fort, as we needed a specific time and that was the only one that worked. I like the GFT but I don't think they'd have been showing this particular film. Good info to have for next time though, cheers!

AmazingPomegranate99

You eh, dont need to wear a mask when you sit down ya numpty.

Jenpot

According to their rules, you do. Only allowed to take them off for eating and drinking. It's on the Vue and Odeon websites.

AmazingPomegranate99

Then have a popcorn on ur lap simple

Valinor_

Can you get a covid booster at your Autumn/Winter vaccination appointment? I booked before 10am for a local authority worker and it didn’t specifically mention the booster

halliwell24

The autumn / winter is the covid booster, and flu, although I’d already paid for a flu jag this year so I just got the covid booster

Valinor_

Thanks a lot, I was booking for a teacher who’d already had the flu jag and wasn’t sure if it was just another flu appointment or if it covered the booster. Cheers!

halliwell24

I’ve seen people say you’re meant to phone to book if you’ve had the flu one but it didn’t say that when I was booking so I just said no flu please and it was fine

Valinor_

Much appreciated

GrantS94

Will the booster jab show on your covid password? Will try to book mine between Christmas and new year

Glasgowghirl62

Yes they’re trying to work out how to do it

Jenpot

Yep, mine is now showing.

vientianna

Mine hasn’t shown and I had mine a month ago. Hmmm

beaker_72

Yes, my other half has had their booster already and it's showing up on the passport for them

Crabbita

Mine showed up on it the next day. Also my negative pcr test is on it as well.

totheregiment

Mine showed up automatically after a few hours.

YodasGoldfish

Has anyone been to the Panto at the Pavilion yet? We went last Wednesday and it was brilliant! I have a question though, I went to the bar and asked for a couple of drinks and the lady told me I couldn't take them to my seat. No big deal, but why is that? Is it a condition of the alcohol licence?

cardno85

I'm assuming it's Pavilion rules, my folks used to go there every year for a concert (for the sake of familial reputation I won't say which) and it was always the case that you couldn't take your drinks in. It's the same in one of the auditoriums in the Royal Concert Hall. I know you can take drink in for the Theatre Royal and the Armadillo, not sure about the Kings though.

sboy365

Kings work on the same rules at the Theatre Royal (need to dump any glass bottles into a plastic cup before you go into the auditorium).

JohnnyClarkee

Probably to do with the mess and the noise, and the amount of people who would constantly be going back and forwards to the bar during the show.

[deleted]

Anyone know what happened at Westerton station yesterday evening? There were around 4-5 police there and the bridge was closed while the forensic team were working.

renzhexiangjiao

Any places near Glasgow where there's lots of snow laying around?

ferociousgeorge

its 10 degrees mate
