giesashot

Sparkle Horse, Thornwood, Deoch an Dorus, The Doublet, Inn Deep, Duke’s, The Old Hairdressers, The Allison Arms, The Bell Jar, Coopers, The Grove.

velvetXeyes

First three I loved when I stayed in Partick, sadly moved away. Inn Deep also a favourite.

giesashot

St Louis Cafe was a cracker as well. Haven’t been to the new place yet so can’t say whether it’s any good.

velvetXeyes

Only driven by it recently but it's changed name now, can't remember what it's called. Thornwood/The Riviera* is jumpin these days.

Jourganon

It's not great. Do yourself a favour and walk further into Partick.

MawsAcidTemple

That's disappointing, was looking forward to trying it soon. What's up with it?

Jourganon

Doesn't have a cool vibe anymore. It's lost its charm.

hsoj30

Used to stay in Glasgow Harbour. Absolutely loved St Louis and was devastated to see it closed. Thornwood doing great things however.

sicknessandpurgatory

This list is absolutely spot on.

giesashot

It’s my duty to drink the pints and report the facts.

no_idea23

First time in glasgow and really pleased I read this. Just had a nice couple of pints in dukes and sparkle horse( luckily arrived too late to join the Monday evening quiz, way too hard!) So msnyvthanks.

MishtotheMitt

Deoch an Dorus is the best name. I’m an expat coming back for a trip next month. Adding that to my list.

rmc1211

Expat or immigrant. No offence, but I hate it when UK people stay expat.

MishtotheMitt

Semantics. Former illegal alien now legal immigrant/expat, dual citizen. Call me whatever!

vollol

All this thread is telling me is that I'm surrounded by redditors every time I go to the pub.

cwestwater

Laurieston by a mile

Jdawgchill69

The only pub in the subcrawl that embraces the crawl. Welcome to everyone

dogforahead

Seconded. Pint of Jarl in The Laurieston is one of my favourite things. Guys that run it are excellent as well.

Seamus_before

Jarl?

dogforahead

Jarl! It’s a very lovely pale ale from Fyne Ales, The Laurieston is one of a few places that reliably have it on cask and look after it well. I highly recommend it if you’re a beer drinker! No idea what the name means, I’m sure someone here will though.

Seamus_before

I was friendly with a fella from Yorkshire called Jarl. That's why I asked. Pint of a pal, pleez

Found_the

You think you're better than me cos' I drink Tennents fuck you, man.

[deleted]

Make sure to get your photo taken for the binder!

Deadend_Friend

Don't get the obsession with this place on Reddit. Is just an old mans pub which is popular with hipsters. There's way better old man's pubs in the southside

alice718

The belle - good vibes all round

faintharmonics

Tiny though!

sapphire_emerald

Lovely in winter when the fire is going

inside_your_face

I was in there a few years ago when we had that brutal snow. Fire on, absolutely packed, folk coming in with their cross country skies. Such a good atmosphere.

sapphire_emerald

There's always a lovely crowd in there.

[deleted]

Being a rum fan, The Rum Shack on Pollokshaws Road is a favourite. They also do great Caribbean food; the jerk chicken and goat curry is amazing.

EffenBee

Second the Rum Shack, followed by a cheeky one in the tiny Koel Schipyard across the street.

sapphire_emerald

The food there is fantastic

North_Seesaw7251

The Gate across from Barrowlands is a really cool spot and the staff are super kind!

sapphire_emerald

The Gallowgate in general has some really good pubs these days

North_Seesaw7251

True! Part of me thinks it is becoming a bit too gentrified though.

Found_the

You think you're better than me because you know what gentrified means, fuck you.

North_Seesaw7251

I don’t know what it means but I heard my brother say that exact sentence to a mate so just stole it.

Found_the

Alright. I'll let you off but you should know I go to university five times a week too(I clean the bogs as a janitor)

jellyfishsundae

The Lismore

kaluna99

The Aragon is a lovely wee friendly boozer. Great staff. Older folk aye, but, at my age, you get peace, from a busy day of shoveling the proverbial shite.

RoutineRegular3276

Ally Arms, Bell Jar, Variety Bar, Thornwood, Tabac.

SadSackSantaS

The Allison Arms. Everyone I have taken seems to really like it and gone back themselves

velvetXeyes

Never been but always hear good things!

nuclearvicar

It’s incredible, the back wall of fridges is a class idea

D3VIL3_ADVOCATE

Redmonds hands down

sapphire_emerald

St lukes/winged ox

lilzobilzo

Second this! Used to be my local till I moved to the South side, so solid to get a seat at the weekend though for just drinks

sapphire_emerald

The rocking chairs outside are class

lilzobilzo

That’s very true, especially when the heaters worked! So cosy!

velvetXeyes

I'm unofficially barred

sapphire_emerald

What did you do?

velvetXeyes

An ex worked there so I barred myself. Ripped the arse out it a few times having said that

ScreamingFannyBaws

Why?

smcsleazy

flying duck OR old hairdressers.

Found_the

Don't go to old hairdressers if you're over the age of thirty - people will stare.

alleahorhan

Came here for flying duck 👍

AgainButHappier

Not a pub so much as a bar but Ben Nevis on a Thursday with live music packed into a beautiful wee space is just \*chefs kiss\*. Whisky bar with great ambiance.

blu_rhubarb

Cmon, your in Glasgow. Pub and bar are interchangeable.

GladEnergy5234

Blackfriars (rip), at Luke's, laurieston, drygate (depending on what staff are on).

janquadrentvincent

Wait, Blackfriars closed?

GladEnergy5234

If seen in a few places it was permanently shut. Happy to be proven wrong but unfortunately I'm pretty sure.

velvetXeyes

Yeah everytime I've been by Blackfriars since the first lockdown it's been shut

sheargraphix

I love the Variety bar, The Belle, The 78, Sparkle Horse, Dukes, Max's, Stereo, Inn Deep and Strip Joint to name a few.

BruceC96

Park Bar.

Deadend_Friend

That and the old toll were the only local boozers I'd drink in when I stayed in Cessnock. The lack of good locals is one of the few downsides of the area.

BruceC96

I was on about the one in Finnieston. Old toll is a cracking wee pub though.

philosophy_phemale

Recently it has become Solid Rock, a rock bar right beside central station! It’s a great environment and they play great music!

blu_rhubarb

The stench of BO is enough to keep me away.

Bobcat-1

It was fine back in the day when you could smoke inside, but when the ban came in it just reeked of BO and arse.

Phil_Mike-Huntin

Spent 6 hours in there before a gig last week, its fair to say I don't remember much of the gig

philosophy_phemale

I don’t suppose it was Bring Me The Horizon or While She Sleeps? Because likely we were there at the same time haha!

Phil_Mike-Huntin

BMTH,unfortunately couldn't get tickets for WSS but what a live band they are aswell.

philosophy_phemale

Mental, I was there, small world

ElMarcoHoJ

Same, was a fuckin cracking gig

Found_the

You two should meet up and exchange saliva.

ElMarcoHoJ

Mate wit

Found_the

It's only gay if you push-back, mate.

Ali41w

Rab Ha’s and Tabac in the city centre. Kelvingrove cafe in the West End.

jeelio

Bar 10 used to be my regular for years but when they changed their name to Tabac and started serving schooners instead of pints but at the same price I never went back. Sounds like it’s improved though if you’re recommending it

Estebaws

Used to DJ there for years on a Friday night. Totally loved the place, punters and staff. All topped off with a wee wait in the Central taxi queue after a lock in. I really miss those days.

jeelio

Awesome! Aye Friday was my main night there straight from work so I probably knew you or your face at least. Good times 👍🏻

devandroid99

It's been pints for a few years now, someone else bought the place. It's still dear, but they're not totally taking the piss.

giesashot

Same here used to go to Bar 10 for a couple after work on a Friday but no really arsed with it now. Going for a younger crowd I think and seems to work so fair play to them.

sapphire_emerald

Is the panther milk bar still there? I haven't been in ages

Ali41w

Sadly not. I think it’s somewhere else though

saltysaltire97

Bon accord is lovely up by Charing cross.

luke_no8

+1 it's cheap with good food, great beer and some class whisky

Street_Proposal8805

Toby Jug

velvetXeyes

I honestly love 98p bottles of Tuborg and football games streamed on a laptop in the most pure way. Folk will slate the Toby Jug (or the Jobby Tug as ma pal calls it) but I've never had a bad night in it. Mon the jug

Street_Proposal8805

It was 98p for Carlsberg at one point. I moved away from Glasgow last year but I always go in when I'm back for a visit

HachiTofu

That brings me back years. Used to go to Kitty’s round the corner from there for a few Guinness, back when they could pour a Guinness, then head to the Toby for a few, then see where it took me after that. 98p for a half decent beer is literally unbeatable

Geordibhoy

Alison Arms

kaluna99

Used to be Tennents in Byres but it turned into a Weatherspoons. Shame.

Veloglasgow

Turned into a wetherspoons?

pure_roaster

Even better, a Toby Carvery. [https://www.mbplc.com/ourbrands/](https://www.mbplc.com/ourbrands/)

kaluna99

Aye. Great boozer destroyed.

EffenBee

Aw, whit? That's disappointing.

pure_roaster

I'm afraid so. This shows that they're now part of that group and the tripadvisor reviews are not flattering. https://www.thetennentsbarglasgow.co.uk/privacy

EffenBee

Aw man. I went to the website to see if there were any pictures of the interior (in order to assess the damage), but even the invitation to book my table online made me too sad. I had many a boozy night in there in my youth. Pure gutted.

kaluna99

Pure shame. Used to be my regular. Canny step foot it in now.

EnemiesAllAround

Fucking hell that is disappointing! Gutted

bangaveragejoe

Tennants had been owned by MB for years and years before. They just tried to make it a wankier gastro pub recently also got rid of the two long standing managers.

Found_the

How tall were they?

kaluna99

Well, it did. Traditional old pub destroyed. Each to their own I guess.

Veloglasgow

It just isn't a wetherspoons.

kaluna99

It's an M&S Weatherspoons...lol.,

convictedpedo69

Rowallan or the Arden bar best in the UK

lasagnwich

The Belle, Allison Arms, Stravaigin

kimble83

Heraghty's on Pollokshaws Road. Looks and feels like how you would imagine a boozer from the early 1900s would be. Great atmosphere and mix of people.

bluefaces08

Doublet, belle, Arlington

donnerhoagie

Star Bar, all day, everyday. And i’m not just talking about the breakfasts. Seriously though it has potential to be banging unless the karaoke is on. Even more seriously - been enjoying The Ladywell recently. In cahoots with that pizza al taglio joint and they deliver to the table if you order at the bar. Decent beer garden. Smokey bit. Boomf.

nuclearvicar

Man really said star bar hahahaha

donnerhoagie

Man really said man hahahah

LegalFreak

Rufus or drury st

AC_Mondial

Rufus T on hope street? That was my favourite back when I lived in Glasgow. I emmigrated about ten years ago and am seriously considering coming home.

LegalFreak

Yeah! It's an awesome place and the people are always lovely. It was one of the first bars I went to when I was a young 'un and it's always been one of my favourite haunts

tbar44

Rufus is a tip but I do love it aye

motherh

Spent some of my formative years in that place, holding up the corner of the bar. Miss it dearly

Senior-Caregiver7394

I've started popping in there. Nice place and great white russians

johnsonmushroom

The Koelschip Yard for some wild craft stuff.

giesashot

Order in a Ranjit’s from across the road for the full whack.

Deadend_Friend

Went there for the first time the other day. Class selection of beers but bare pricey

stephwithstars

Koelschipyard

Dom_1995

The Pot Still for me. Honourable mentions for the Horseshoe and Kitty O'Shea's.

ScreamingFannyBaws

I'm not telling you.

5um11

Consistent_Mode_7425

velvetXeyes

Hard pass

Consistent_Mode_7425

I sometimes go to the lowden. Nah, that’s a fuckin lie haha.

velvetXeyes

I'll be honest, went to the Louden then the Catty a couple of weeks back after a match. Wit a night.

MediocreEquipment457

Don’t let people think you’re a rangers fan in this sub .. sure fire way to get downvoted cause apparently all rangers fans are orange walk loving, Irish hating, unionist , bigots

kidbingo

Heraghtys. Stereo. Mono. 13th Note. Horseshoe. The Admiral. Tennants. Brel

kissinggoodbye

The Howgait

Stengah71

Dublet

Jenpot

Ally Arms, Drygate, Shilling Brewery, Inn Deep, Sparkle Horse.

patmanftw

Never had a bad night in The Ark

MawsAcidTemple

The Ark just feels like a student union.

Forever__Young

I've had a disproportionate number of KBs or 'Sorry we're fulls' in there even before the pandemic though.

Stu2682

Vowed never to go back there after working there for 5 years in my 20s.

velvetXeyes

The Ark was the go-to place for us for a while tbf. Cannae complain about it

shintymcarseflap

Gallus.

Prrwml2

Kohlschip yard, grunting growler, inn deep

giesashot

I like Gruntinf Growler but need to take out a second mortgage for anything over 330ml.

GeeseShagger69

Avoid Graces Irish spots bar at Tollgate. It’s pish and I’m the second person in its history to be barred.

EfeAmbroseBallonDor

I must be the first then! Witd you do? 😂

GeeseShagger69

I was leathered and needed to use the facilities but in my drunken state I decided to cross the road and piss against the wall right next to the beer garden and almost got lifted for it. Luckily I just got barred tho.

Found_the

That sounds like the beginning to a great story! What happened after that?

GeeseShagger69

All I remember was a couple of the boys I was with coming out with my bag and jacket and then we left. After that idk I just remember a lot of walking about and shit until we went home. Ended up losing my wallet that night which was a cunt.

GangstahRealMonsters

Grunting Growler Craft Beer has a lot of craft beers you can't get anywhere else in Glasgow

confusionface

Websters is super cosy in the winter with the fires on.

Found_the

I thought Websters was a Theatre, man?

confusionface

Pub and theatre

askyerda

Whenever I go to a gig at the Barrowlands I go to either the Crystal Bell or Heilan Jessie so I have a massive soft spot for those two. No for a minute suggesting they’re the best pubs in Glasgow, I just like them.

kiesar_sosay

You should try the gate across the road from the ballroom. Great wee boozer if you can get s seat.

Few-Requirement9133

the doublet, the Grove, Allison arms, lock27, thornwood, lismore and mchuills

MishtotheMitt

I’m an expat coming back with my US husband next month and it’s been quite a while. We’re in our mid 40’s/early 50’s but enjoy a good night out. Staying in the west end across from Ashton lane. Would love a wee seat. Any good recommendations for laid back pubs or good craft cocktail places? Also any late night pubs as we’re visiting lots of folks on the outskirts for dinner and usually stop for a drink on our way home (at least we do here). Thank you! Sorry, last question… how much of the city and its venues do you expect to be closed for Cop26? We, unfortunately, planned this around concert tix that we have and will be there right in the thick of it. Wondering if everything will be shut for private parties?

fusefivekay

Doubt anything will be closed for it. Certainly nowhere on this thread. With covid a lot of places have been closing early, but if you’re on Byers rd you’ll no be short of a nightcap

MishtotheMitt

Thank you so much!

CheeKiang

The finnieston in…. Finnieston does lovely cocktails, things I haven’t had anywhere else before. Food is amazing there too.

Flashlines

Curlers, or The Curlers or The Curlers Rest....

VirginianViking

Am I likely to find a free dartboard at any of these places? Preferably near the voco Grande Central?

velvetXeyes

The Raven has dartboards you can book. I think they're electronic so they count your score and whatnot. Never used them myself though.

JadMockery

Depends what you are into ?!

swoombliss

It's been a while since I've been in, but always loved the Park Bar up Finnieston. All the Highlander pubs are brilliant up there.

Economy_Help65

Only been twice and both times been unreal. Blane valley is a quality night out

GrantS94

The gate - right across from the Barras. Outstanding wee pub, please if you get the chance visit!

StonedPhysicist

Not a single mention of the Three Judges so far? Gang, you're breaking my heart. Tons of ale and proper ciders.

Redditsleuth_F

Toby jug

punky67

Old toll bar, arlington, Allison arms

JagsFraz71

Dukes

Auldgalivanter

Tennents,,the last bastion of" Men Only" I WASTHERE! in 1968 when after the "BRA"-burning Wimmen from the UNI up the road marched on the pub as the Law made it illegal to refuse to serve women in Public Bars the place was Stuffed to the doors It took some WEEMillytant about30 mins to push her way in and get her half pint, then they all slipped off into the night.

gregbenson314

I adore the pot still.

userunknowne

Can’t believe no recommendations for the State Bar or Bon Accord. Both have some of the finest beers in the city.

Deadend_Friend

Old Toll Bar, Titwood, Sparkle Horse are probably my favourites

chubaccy

Counting house

boredsittingonthebus

The Counting House is terrible. It takes forever to get a drink at the bar. The only times I've been is when other people have dragged me there. When you're waiting at the bar to get served, all you can hear is all the other customers talking about how long they've been waiting there.

chubaccy

Why did so many people think I was being serious smh

lolbrothatscrazy

Slug and lettuce on Vincent street and mchuills on the high street

turnstileblues1

Allison Arms or The State

larodora

Malones. Waxy O’Connor’s is good for a few to start of the night. Ross’s Bar is good for karaoke.
